On Spokane’s south hill is where you’ll find a great macchiato and the nitro brew. Mike and Deb Nelson are owners of Revel 77, a classy little coffee establishment on 57th Avenue.
They feature Doma and Vessel products and bring in a third roaster on an alternating basis. Mike and Deb moved to Spokane 12 years ago from Arizona and have operated Revel 77 for the last four years. They came up with the name from loving to “revel” and having been married in 1977.
I was there to try out their macchiato. Macchiato means “marked” and has a smooth colorful creamy top. Made with two shots of espresso, this delightful café offering is sure to open the eyes.
Revel 77 serves their macchiato with a short glass of tonic water on a wooden platter for a very nice presentation. The macchiato is made with Pacamara beans from El Salvador that are quite large, about 1.5 times the size of an Arabica.
Another coffee drink I was intrigued with at Revel 77 was their nitro brew. Revel 77 started nitro brew when a regular customer suggested they bring in an interesting new coffee product called “nitro brew”. It’s known as nitro brew because nitrogen is infused into the cold brew coffee for a different taste and texture using a nitro brew kit (photo below: nitro brew kettle).
Nitro brew is a tasty beverage perfect for hot summer days. I really enjoyed the Guinness like head and the fizzy attribute blended with a great coffee flavor. The cold beverage has been well received by the local patrons.
Macchiato, espresso, cappuccino, lattes, nitro brew, and drip coffee are all offered on the menu. They also make their own syrups such as rosemary and basil mint. Their most popular beverages are the seasonal offerings that include coffee lemonade, orange cardamom, and vanilla ginger.
The center of the shop features a large island countertop with outlets and plenty of room. It’s perfect for hanging out with a cup of java and working on the laptop.
Prices are very reasonable ranging from $2.30 to $4.90 and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Even if you’re not a resident of Spokane’s south side area, it’s worth a trip up the hill to experience the macchiato and nitro brew. While you are there, grab a couple of nitro brew to-go to drink later or bring as gifts for friends at home.
