Part of our team here at CoffeeSphere is based in New York City. If you’ve been to NYC, you’ve likely come across several Bluestone Lane locations. (They’re also in other major cities like across the US.)

These are Australian-inspired cafes known for their brunch options and coffee.

One of their coffee drinks is the Aussie Iced Latte. Inspired by Bluestone Lane, I made my own at home.

What is an Aussie Iced Latte?

An Aussie Iced Latte is an iced latte with ice cream.

At Bluestone Lane, the description of their drink “a double shot of espresso with vanilla ice cream and your choice of milk.”

So I did something similar here. I brewed two shots of espresso using my moka pot, added it to ice and milk and topped it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. (I even happened to have a similar glass like the one they use to show on their online menus!)

What is the difference between iced latte and iced coffee?

You might be wondering why this is called an iced latte and not iced coffee.

An iced latte is made with espresso, milk and ice. Meanwhile, iced coffee can be coffee brewed using any method (like using your Keurig or other pod coffee maker) and simply adding ice to it.

We go into much more detail about it here, iced latte vs iced coffee

Basically, this is an iced latte because we are using lots of milk and espresso.

Tips for Making an Aussie Iced Latte

Espresso

I used a moka pot to brew coffee.

If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, I recommend using a moka pot. It’s easy to use a lot less expensive than an espresso machine. It brews an espresso like, concentrated coffee that will work well for this recipe.

Check out our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine for other options if you don’t have an espresso machine or a moka pot.

Milk

I used almond milk.

At Bluestone Lane, you can choose between oat milk or almond milk (at an extra charge) or whole, skim milk or half and half. Feel free to use your preferred milk when making the Aussie Iced Latte at home.

Ice Cubes

While I used regular ice cubes in this recipe, you can also use coffee ice cubes.

This is a ‘trick’ to avoiding diluted coffee – you know, when the ice cubes melt quickly on a hot day and you’re left with watery coffee.

You can also get creative and flavor the coffee ice cubes. I put a little vanilla syrup into the coffee before freezing in ice cube trays for a slight vanilla flavor. You can get creative and try other syrups, sauces or even condensed milk.

Ice Cream

I used storebought vanilla ice cream.

A classic vanilla is what is used for Aussie Iced Lattes but if you want to change it up, use your favorite ice cream flavor.

I used storebought ice cream, but you can also make your own easily at home. Check out our recipe for how to make no churn coffee ice cream at home. You can omit the coffee and add vanilla to make vanilla ice cream.

Step 1

Brew espresso. I used a moka pot. Set aside to cool completely. You don’t want the hot espresso to melt the ice immediately.

Step 2

Put ice, milk and cooled espresso into a glass.

Step 3

Top with a scoop (or two!) of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
