You also know it’s fall when most coffee shops begin relaunching their seasonal drinks. If you are in the mood for a beverage that just screams fall, you should give this warm pumpkin spice latte a try.

What’s a pumpkin spice latte?

The pumpkin spice latte is a coffee beverage made with pumpkin and a mix of traditional fall spices along with espresso and steamed milk. It is often topped with whipped cream and garnished with more fall spices.

The pumpkin spice latte (or PSL as it’s known to the fans!) was first originally launched by Starbucks in the fall of 2003. It was a huge success and people were loving it so much that it’s still going strong even today. PSL lovers continue to enjoy it at Starbucks and others have made their own copycat recipes, like ours!

We are going to remake this popular seasonal beverage in a more natural and healthier way. It tastes so good and does not contain any artificial flavors or colors.

Let’s get started!

How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte

Step 1: Homemade Pumpkin Spice

Use store bought pumpkin pie spice, or make your own pumpkin spice.

It is super easy to make and requires only 5 spices to create your own batch. I am willing to bet you probably already have most of them laying in your kitchen – ground allspice, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Combine all the spices in a small bowl and stir well.

We are not going to use all of it, so make sure you put the unused spices in an airtight container or mason jar and store in a dark, cool place.

The spice should last you for many months of pumpkin spice lattes and other pumpkin flavored beverages, as long as you keep it away from heat and light.

Step 2: Make Espresso

Pull a double shot espresso from your espresso machine and set aside for later use.

If you don’t have an espresso machine, you might opt for a cup of strong black coffee using different brewing methods like an Aeropress, French press or a moka pot.

Step 3: Heat It Up

Combine pumpkin purée, pumpkin spice and milk in a saucepan over medium heat.

Whisk it all together and stir frequently until hot and steamy.

I used canned pumpkin purée, but you can always use a homemade version if you have it available.

Step 4: Mix It All Together

Remove from heat, add espresso and maple syrup and continue to whisk until frothy.

Step 5: Serve It Up!

Pour into a coffee mug, top with whipped cream and garnish with a sprinkle of homemade pumpkin spice.

A warm pumpkin spice latte is made with real pumpkin and naturally sweetened with maple syrup.

There is something so comforting about this warm pumpkin spice latte, where the pumpkin just melts right into the coffee and further warms your stomach and soul.

This recipe is easy to prepare, and it is the ideal beverage for chilly afternoons and cozy nights. Whether you are chilling in front of the fireplace or hosting a party, this is the perfect solution and won’t disappoint you.
