If you’ve ever had Neopolitan ice cream, maybe you have the same sentiment as I do. It’s like the ice cream for people who can’t decide what flavor they want. So they just get all three in one.

That’s what I think when I choose the flavor.

If you’ve never heard of it, neapolitan ice cream is ⅓ vanilla ice cream, ⅓ chocolate and ⅓ strawberry ice cream.

These flavors work for coffee so I recreated this three layered ice cream flavor into 3 parts – vanilla (sweetened condensed milk), chocolate (coffee and dark chocolate sauce) and strawberry (oatmilk and strawberry or raspberry syrup.)

Here’s how to make this fun 3 layer Neopolitan Coffee at home:

Tips for Making Neopolitan Coffee

As mentioned, Neapolitan ice cream has a layer of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Here’s how each layer is made for our coffee:

Layer 1: Vanilla

This is the easiest layer. It’s simply sweetened condensed milk

Sweetened condensed milk is heavy enough and able to hold the coffee and cold foam without having it all mix together right away. So make sure to add this first to the bottom of the glass.

Layer 2: Chocolate

This is the layer where the coffee will go and flavored with chocolate. I used Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce

Choose your favorite coffee beans and favorite brewing method for this layer. I used a moka pot and Stumptown Coffee’s Hair Bender. Make sure to mix the chocolate sauce and coffee together before pouring this layer on top of the sweetened condensed milk.

Layer 3: Strawberry / Raspberry

For this layer, I used raspberry flavored cold foam. This is the strawberry layer but you can also use raspberry if you prefer the flavor.

I used Torani Raspberry Syrup and frothed it in a milk frother with oatmilk for a dairy free coffee drink.

Check out my guide for making cold foam.

(The combination I prefer that will hold the best is 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream and 3 tablespoons skim milk. But I have found oatmilk will hold the best for a dairy free alternative. And by it’ll hold I mean the milk will foam and won’t immediately sink into the coffee when you pour the frothed milk into the liquid.)
