If you’ve ever had an Iced Coconutmilk Mocha Macchiato at Starbucks and are also wondering why Starbucks decided to discontinue it, why not try making it at home?

(At least until Starbucks brings it back… maybe?)

To make it at home, you’ll need coconut milk, espresso and white chocolate sauce. Here’s how to put your macchiato together.

What is a macchiato?

But first off, what’s a macchiato anyway?

At Starbucks and most chain cafes, ordering a macchiato means getting a layered drink. There’s milk on the bottom with espresso on top. This is a latte macchiato.

Then there’s the espresso macchiato. Macchiato means stained or marked in Italian, so I think of it as a shot of espresso that’s stained with just a dollop of steamed milk.

The espresso macchiato is substantially smaller than the latte macchiato.

So make sure you know whether you’re gettina an espresso or latte macchiato when ordering a macchiato at a cafe.

What is in an Iced Coconutmilk Mocha Macchiato?

The main ingredient, as listed on the Starbucks website is Coconutmilk followed by Ice, Brewed Espresso, White Chocolate Mocha Sauce, Caramel Sauce and Mocha Sauce.

They made the iced coconutmilk mocha macchiato by combinbing their Espresso Roast with white chocolate sauce.

This is added on top of Sumatran coconutmilk and ice and all topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce and mocha sauce.

We’ll be doing something very similar here. And it’s very easy to do.

Tips for Making Iced Coconutmilk Mocha Macchiato

Espresso

I used a moka pot to brew coffee.

Check out our guide to making espresso at home without an espresso machine.

This is a helpful guide if you don’t have an espresso machine at home because you’ll find can still make macchiatos and other espresso based drinks!

I prefer using a moka pot because it brews a concentrated, espresso-like coffee easily. Plus, purchasing one isn’t very expensive and is a great brewing option to have at home.

White Chocolate Sauce

I used Torani White Chocolate Sauce

I their line of sauces for most of my coffee drink recipes because they mix well with hot or cold coffees. And most importantly, they taste good.

Coconut Milk

I used So Delicious Coconutmilk

Feel free to use a plain one or a vanilla flavored coconutmilk.

Ice

While Starbucks uses regular water based ice cubes (and I did too), I sometimes like to change it up especially in the summer and use coffee ice cubes.

I simply freeze coffee in ice cube trays instead of ice. Putting this in iced coffee drinks means when it melts, there’s no watered down coffee, just more coffee!

You can also get creative and add a drop or two of coffee syrups to flavor the cubes.

Toppings

Starbucks tops the Iced Coconutmilk Mocha Macchiato with a drizzle of both caramel and mocha sauce.

I used Torani Caramel Sauce and Torani Dark Chocolate Sauce for my homemade version.

Step 1

Brew espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, use a moka pot like I did.

Step 2

Set espresso aside to cool completely. You don’t want your coconutmilk to get warm right away. Mix white chocolate sauce with espresso.

Step 3

Pour ice and coconutmilk in a glass. Then pour white chocolate espresso on top.

Step 4

Add a drizzle of caramel sauce and a drizzle of chocolate sauce on top of the macchiato.
