Graham Cracker Latte Recipe

Love graham crackers? I do. So I made this graham cracker latte made with what I call graham cracker milk.

I make overnight oats almost every morning. Sometimes with coffee, sometimes without. Other times I experiment with ingredients like pumpkin in my pumpkin spice latte overnight oats

And one time I sprinkled crushed graham crackers into the almond milk I was using to soak the oats.

Graham crackers happen to be one of my favorite cookies.

So when I tasted the graham cracker overnight oats with that sweet honey flavor of graham crackers, I knew I had to use that same infused milk to make coffee.

To make a graham cracker latte, I steep crushed graham crackers into warm milk. Meanwhile, I brew the coffee. Then I strain the milk, mix it with my coffee and top it with whipped cream and an extra graham cracker on top. It’s delicious.

How to make graham cracker milk

The star of this latte is the graham cracker milk.

Have you heard of Milk Bar? It’s a bakery started by Christina Tosi in New York City and is part of David Chang’s Momofuku group. There are locations across the country in LA, DC, Boston and Las Vegas.

I love Milk Bar. They’re known for their cookies, like the Compost Cookie. It’s a chocolate chip cookie but with pretzels, potato chips and a bunch of other ingredients in one. It sounds a bit weird like it’s a sweet and salty cookie… but it is so good.

Though there’s nothing quite like going to a Milk Bar location for a freshly baked cookie, you can try one that Milk Bar sells on Amazon

Another product they’re known for is Cereal Milk.

You know when you’re eating a bowl of corn flakes and when you’ve finished the cereal, there’s always a little bit of milk left? That sweet cereal flavored milk at the bottom of your bowl is Cereal Milk.

To make it, Milk Bar toasts the corn flakes and steeps it in milk for about 20 minutes. Then they strain it and mix in some brown sugar.

This is the same idea when it comes to graham cracker milk. Here’s what I did:

  1. Warm milk in a milk frother on the heat setting.
  2. Break graham crackers into pieces and place in a cup.
  3. Pour warm milk over the graham cracker pieces. Let it steep for about 15 minutes.
  4. Strain the milk.
  5. Use this graham cracker milk in the graham cracker latte.

You can also make a large batch of the graham cracker milk, store it and drink it on its own or use it like a coffee creamer.

And you can potentially do this with other of your favorite cookies. I have Nilla Wafers on my list to try next. Or also cinnamon and chocolate flavored graham crackers. The possibilities are endless.

Graham Cracker Latte Ingredients

Espresso

I used Kicking Horse Coffee Smart Ass whole beans and brewed it with a moka pot

A latte is an espresso based coffee drink. The milk to coffee ratio in a latte is usually one or two shots of espresso to about 3 parts steamed milk and a layer of milk foam.

So since this is a graham cracker latte, it requires espresso.

Espresso is made by pressurizing water through tightly packed coffee grounds to create a concentrated coffee. The perfect amount of pressure is achieved using an espresso machine. But if you don’t have an espresso machine at home, that’s ok.

I frequently use a moka pot to make my espresso. It’s one of the closest ways to make espresso.

And if you don’t have a moka pot, check out our guide to making espresso using a French press or an Aeropress. Hopefully you already have one of these tools at home so you can make the latte now. But if you don’t, just try your best to create a strong, concentrated coffee with whichever coffee maker you have.

Milk

I used Califia Farms Barista Blend almond milk.

You can use whole milk, skim milk or your favorite milk alternative.

I chose the barista blend because it is formulated to froth like regular milk. Several milk alternative brands make a barista blend version of their milks. You can find barista blend oat milk, soy milk and almond milk.

Graham crackers

I went with a classic Honey Maid graham cracker

You can also use other graham cracker flavors like chocolate or cinnamon, or even make your own at home.

How to Make a Graham Cracker Latte

  1. Brew espresso.
  2. Heat milk and pour into a mug. Place graham crackers in the mug and steep the cookies for 15 minutes.
  3. Use a strainer to strain the milk.
  4. Pour espresso into a mug, then graham cracker milk.
  5. Optional: Top with frothed milk or whipped cream.

Step 1

Brew espresso. I used Kicking Ass Coffee Smart Ass whole beans. I used a Hario Skerton grinder to grind the beans extra fine to use in a moka pot. Pour the espresso into a mug.

Step 2

Make the graham cracker milk. Heat milk (I used a milk frother on the heat setting) and pour over graham crackers. Let it steep for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Strain the milk and pour it into the mug with espresso.

Step 4

Top with whipped cream.
