Drink Coffee, Read and Grow Rich

At the start of the New Year, our team decided it was time to take our business to the next level. One of the ways to do that is by spending more time reading. Reading books that are inspiring and books that might teach us a thing or two about life and business. So, we set a target of reading 50 books per person this year. We will share some of the books here (throughout 2016) with our coffee drinking audience.

Grab your cup of coffee and let’s dive into these quotes from the 5 books we’ve read. Let’s drink coffee, read and grow rich:

1. I’ll Drink to That: A Life in Style, with a Twist by Betty Halbreich

This book was written by Bergdorf Goodman’s legendary 86-year-old personal shopper, Betty Halbreich. She shared about her childhood in Chicago, her failed marriage, her struggles with depression, insecurity and much much more. We recommend this book if you like reading about how one overcame limitations and struggles to create a legendary life.

Here is one quote from the book:

I vehemently mourned the death of good manners, devotion to quality, joy in hard work, obligation to others – and I mourned the deaths of those who’d embodied these qualities that appeared to be on the verge of extinction

– Betty Halbreich

Money Making Mom is a book by hugely successful stay-at-home mom, blogger, speaker, and entrepreneur, Crystal Paine. She made it look so easy to work from home and raise a family. The book will show you how she did it, her suggestions and many more tips that every mom or dad can use to earn more and make a difference. We recommend this book if you are looking for ideas to start a second stream of income or are slowly positioning yourself to start a business – even a coffee shop business!

Here is a quote from the book:

Successful business owners take initiative. They put in backbreaking effort and hard work. They don’t wait for others to spoon-feed their success. They make it happen.

3. The Maxwell Daily Reader by John C. Maxwell

Get 365 days of insight to develop the leader within you and influence those around you. Success doesn’t come suddenly. This book gives you bite-sized nuggets taken from various leadership and personal growth books written by John C. Maxwell. In the introduction, Mr. Maxwell wrote, “Each entry contains an excerpt to encourage you, teach you, challenge you or prompt you to grow.”

Here is one quote from the book:

Find your vision, and let it guide you in all that you do

– John c. Maxwell

If you have not read John Maxwell’s book, we recommend you do so. John Maxwell’s said:

Growth is the great separator between those who succeed and those who do not. When I see a person beginning to separate themselves from the pack, it’s almost always due to personal growth.

4. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Gilbert needs no introduction. She is the author of Eat Pray Love and if you haven’t read that book, you may want to check it out. In her other book, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, we learned that idea is a being, meaning the idea you have now will leave you if you don’t grab it and do something about it. This book is powerful, and is for anyone who is looking to create something – be it art, a book, product, coffee shop, anything!

Here is one quote from the book:

Stop complaining…nobody ever really listens to anybody else’s complaints, anyhow, because we’re all too focused on our own holy struggle, so basically you’re just talking to a brick wall

5. The 4-Hour Chef by Timothy Ferriss

Ever heard of the 4-Hour Work Week? Tim Ferriss, the author, has written two other books in the 4-Hour series, namely, the 4-Hour Body and the 4-Hour Chef. The 4-Hour Chef is a 671-page cookbook with plenty of photos, illustrations, and inspirational quotes. We like this cookbook because it is unconventional and Mr. Ferriss is one who does things out of the box. Mr. Ferriss has a recipe on how to make Muscle Cricket Protein Bars using Fluker Farms crickets, almond butter, whey protein powder, rolled oats, shredded coconut, vanilla, and water.

On pages 196 t0 201, Mr. Ferriss wrote a section about coffee. His tools to make the perfect cup of coffee include: Hario Hand Grinder, Porlex Hand Grinder, Chemex, Intelligentsia Guatemalan Coffee, Hario Buono Drip Kettle, AeroPress and Hario V60 coffee dripper.

Aeropress is his favorite method of brewing coffee.

Here is one quote from the book:

Coffee is more labor-intensive than wine to produce and has 3 times the “complexity” -the volume of taste compounds. In other words, there was a lot of education to cover.

– Timothy Ferriss
