Chocolate covered coffee beans are made with roasted coffee beans coated in a thick layer of melted chocolate. They are a delicious snack for anyone with a sweet tooth looking for a quick caffeine fix.

These crispy, sweet, and crunchy coffee beans are also a fun way to get a boost of energy. Think of them as bite-sized caffeinated treats that only require a few ingredients.

Are chocolate covered coffee beans real coffee beans?

Yes, chocolate-covered coffee beans are made with coffee beans! Feel free to use your coffee bean of choice.

If it’s your first time making this, it’s suggested to use medium roast coffee beans because it has a balanced flavor, aroma, and acidity.

While medium roast coffee is in the middle, light roast coffee is known to be sweeter with a crisp acidity. And on the other hand, dark roast coffee has lower acidity with darker and more bitter flavors.

What’s the best chocolate to use for chocolate covered beans?

There’s a variety of types of chocolate available to you—milk chocolate, white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, and dark chocolate. The good news is you can use any.

If you’re using darker chocolate, consider pairing it with a light roast coffee bean to balance out the coffee’s intensity.

Sweeter chocolate, on the other hand, pairs well with anything but works better on dark roast coffee beans. Dark roast offers slightly more bitterness which can offset the sweetness from the chocolate.

Tools

It is fun to make this treat and super easy to make at home. However, it won’t look exactly like store-bought chocolate covered coffee beans unless you have a chocolate panning machine or you are using a silicone mold.

These beans will have an uneven chocolate coating and might not look perfectly good, but they are healthier and taste much better.
