I love a delicious stack of pancakes in the mornings.

A classic pancake with maple syrup is just so satisfying.

But as I thought about it, I could give pancakes a coffee twist. So I made these Caramel Coffee Pancakes.

I used Nescafe Clasico, my go to instant coffee for baking and other coffee flavored desserts. I used buttermilk to make these pancakes fluffy and chose Torani Caramel Sauce as the topping to complement the coffee flavor.

I hope these will make your morning!

Tips for Making Caramel Coffee Pancakes

The Best Instant Coffee

I used Nescafe Clasico Instant Coffee.

I like using this dark roast instant coffee for most of my coffee flavored desserts and baked goods. It works really well for these caramel coffee pancakes too.

If you prefer a more subtle coffee flavor, use less like ½ tbsp of instant coffee and for a stronger coffee flavor, add more.

Also, if you prefer your coffee pancakes without caffeine, you can use the decaf version of Nescafe Clasico.

Here’s the list if you just want to pick one (links to purchase on Amazon):

Buttermilk

While you can use regular milk instead of buttermilk, your coffee pancakes won’t be fluffy. So I recommend using buttermilk for these pancakes.

Caramel Sauce

I used Torani Caramel Sauce

I like using Torani sauces because they are great in coffee drinks and can also double as sauces for desserts and these pancakes!

How to Make Caramel Coffee Pancakes

  1. Dissolve instant coffee in water. Add more instant coffee if you prefer a really strong coffee flavor.
  2. Beat the egg. Mix in buttermilk, melted butter and instant coffee.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  4. Mix buttermilk mixture with dry ingredients. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes.
  5. Place a pan on the stovetop on medium heat. When heated, add 1 tbsp butter to the pan.
  6. Scoop approximately ¼ cup of batter for each pancake onto the heated pan. Flip when the batter starts to bubble.
  7. Drizzle caramel sauce on top. Optional: add whipped cream.
