A cup of coffee is always a delightful pre-flight treat after the hassle of checking-in and going through airport security. These days, it’s easy to get a good cup of coffee at airports. To name just two; Caffe Pascucci in Seoul Incheon International Airport and Leysieffer Bistro and Cafe in Stuttgart Airport. If you fly with Lufthansa, you get Nepresso coffee for just 2 euros per cup at the gate, regardless of which class of service you paid for your seat.
But, what do you do when you yearn for another cup at 35,000 feet?
Could you imagine getting macchiatto, cappucino, espresso, latte or any type of coffee you want on a flight?
Austrian Airlines is one of the few airlines that offers a variety of specialty coffee in business and first class cabins. If you’re flying economy, you’ll most likely have to settle for stale black coffee that usually lacks in aroma and freshness. However, there are a few exceptions, some airlines do it better than others. Here are five small airlines that are exceptional when it comes to brewing and serving airline coffee.
1. Aer Lingus
The Irish national airline serves Java Republic coffee, Ireland’s hand-roasted coffee in Dublin. Aer Lingus’ Java Republic fresh filter coffee is not free. It’s worth paying 3 euros for this Irish specialty coffee. Each tightly sealed individual paper cup has freshly ground coffee. The flight attendant adds hot water into the cup when you make an order. The cup has a special built in coffee filter to prevent the ground coffee from flowing out when you sip.
2. Air North Yukon’s Airline
Canada’s regional airline, Air North Yukon’s Airline serves freshly roasted coffee from Midnight Sun Coffee Roasters. This coffee roasting company, located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada, has been family-owned and operated for over 15 years. To deliver freshness, Midnight Sun Coffee Roasters roasts in small batches every day.

3. Hawaiian Airlines
Hawaii is the only state in the United States that grows coffee. Naturally, to serve the very best Hawaiian Airlines get it from Hawaiian Paradise Coffee. Freshly roasted coffee is delivered daily from their roasting facility to Hawaiian Airlines and served in all flights.
4. Joon
Air France’s new sister airline, Joon is created for millennials. Joon serves vitamin-filled smoothies and healthy and organic products. And of course, organic coffee. The organic coffee is from Segafredo, a specialty coffee company in Italy.
Besides the ability to stream movies and shows on your devices, you’ll get free Wi-Fi, hot towels before meals, French food, wine and coffee. And cool flight attendants.
