Décor and ambience
The entrance door is strategically placed in a corner facing the junction between 50th Street and Skillman Avenue with red awnings on either side, making it look attractive and different from the rest of the shops on the street.
Interior brick walls cover the left where all the seats are located for diners. The counter for take out orders is the centerpiece of the café. At the corner on the right were six barstools.
If you want to take a seat at the café you must order your coffee and food from the server not from the barista at the counter. The crowd on a late Sunday morning seemed mixed of young people, couples with babies and older folks. Unlike many cafés in Manhattan, Aubergine Café does not have the laptop environment.
There is no free WiFi but they provide lots of reading materials like newspapers and magazines. The place is calming to the soul.
Coffee: Type, price and taste
The small iced coffee was $2.15 plus tax. It is cheap for New York City and of course cheaper than Starbucks. The cranberry scone was a perfect match with the normal non-sugar iced coffee.
The cafe has a variety of bagels, scones, waffles, salads, paninis, sandwiches and desserts. Coffee is served from opening time till 11 pm.
How to get there
The 7 train serves Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods. You can either get off at 52nd Street/Lincoln Ave stop or 46 Street/Bliss Street stop.

If you like exploring local neighborhoods, Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods have unique shops, grocery stores and various ethnic foods.
