What is affogato? 

The word affogato is Italian for drowned. The affogato coffee drink was named affogato because it consists of a scoop of vanilla gelato ‘drowned’ in a shot of espresso. That’s it! Pour an ounce of espresso over a scoop of ice cream and you have a treat to quickly satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth or anyone who needs a boost of caffeine in the middle of the day.

Make the espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, we recommend using a moka pot.

Scoop ice cream into a bowl or cup.

Pour hot espresso over the ice cream. 

Optional: Pour in Kahlua or Frangelico. 

Step 4

Add toppings if desired (like chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, cinnamon, sprinkles) and eat immediately.
