Just last week, after having many issues with my stomach, I finally said yes to my doctor to take a lactose intolerance test. If you have done that test, you’ll know how I felt. Prior to taking the test, I had to fast for 12 hours – no liquid and no food.
Without coffee the next morning, I sat at the doctor’s office waiting room by the TV which was playing the morning weather news. As I was settling down to read, “Dracula” in a blue uniform called my name. I followed her to her little corner with tubes and multi-colored tapes. After some small talk, she began to draw the first tube of my blood. Then, she gave me a drink of white powder mixed with a bottle of water. I had to drink that nasty drink that was supposed to measure if I was lactose intolerant. After drinking that potent white drink full of lactose, she told me I might have stomach trouble, bloatedness, diarrhea and flatulence.
“Dracula” called every half hour to get more blood, a total of five samples in two hours. By the end, my arms were sore. My stomach began to churn after an hour of drinking the white mixture and by the time I arrived home, and I spent the rest of the day either at the toilet or in bed with a stomachache.
